Description

Description

Against the backdrop of the Middle East conflict, people in the Palestinian territories are suffering from a long-lasting crisis, which is reflected, among other things, in growing unemployment, limited access to resources, geographical fragmentation and severe restrictions on the movement of people and goods due to the Israeli occupation and the blockade of the Gaza Strip. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation with potentially long-term effects on the vulnerable population. The project goal is to strengthen resilience in the fragile context in the Palestinian territories with a short-term focus on COVID-19 emergency relief measures. In the medium term, the project pursues a comprehensive approach to strengthening the resilience of people and local institutions in the areas of health, community and employment. The IPR is accordingly divided into the following two components. Component 1 covers emergency relief measures to strengthen the capacities of health services in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. This includes the provision of medical equipment and materials, strengthening the health system through short-term recruitment and training of health personnel, and containing contamination through safe disposal of medical waste. Component 2 aims to strengthen resilience in the medium to long term through rehabilitation and expansion of social infrastructure with a focus on the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and Area C. Accompanying measures are planned to strengthen social cohesion and the management and service capacity of local institutions.
