Description
Description | Palestinian society suffers from limited access to resources, geographical fragmentation, internal political tensions, and severe restrictions on the movement of people and goods due to the Israeli occupation and the blockade of the Gaza Strip. The long-standing crisis has recently become more acute due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the escalation of the conflict with Israel in May 2021. Due to financial and economic constraints, the public sector can only provide the necessary social services to a limited extent, so that non-governmental social institutions and NGOs are increasingly stepping in. But non-governmental actors are also affected by the same problems. The IPR project goal is to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable Palestinian communities. This includes improving social infrastructure and services in conjunction with promoting social cohesion. The project combines the two fields of action of transitional aid: reconstruction of basic infrastructure and basic services and peaceful and inclusive coexistence. The measures include three complementary outputs for which EUR 10 million will be made available: Output 1 Rehabilitation and/or expansion of social infrastructure with a focus on Gaza, East Jerusalem and some Area C. Output 2 Strengthening the capacities of local social institutions in the areas of management, operation and maintenance. Output 3 Strengthening social cohesion through the formulation and implementation of resilience plans in the communities. |
