Description

Description

Our Summer of Freedom is a 6 x 26 minutes 2D animated series developed for television for young people. The series revolves around the adventures of a group of children in 1955 Algiers, at the beginning of the conflict, who despite their different social and cultural backgrounds will rally themselves around Khadidja, a young girl who has just arrived in the city and whose brother Malek is wrongly arrested by the police following an altercation. Created by Alice Zeniter (winner of the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens and many other international prizes), this project is part of a collective memory work that is important for our time, at a time when Europe is questioning the issues of living together and looking back at its colonial past. The main intention of Our Summer of Freedom is not to chronicle a war but to show how children from different origins are able to overcome the hatred and prejudices of adults and rise together against injustice. Thus, Our Summer of Freedom goes beyond borders to offer a universal story for a young audience but also for their parents and grandparents, thus engaging in an intergenerational dialogue. Our Summer of Freedom is a co-production between Darjeeling (France), Panique! (Belgium) and Lunanime (Belgium), three renowned animation production companies who have combined their expertise to create a unique project. With Our Summer of Freedom, more than a hundred creative talents will participate in the production of this project (about 60 in France and 40 in Belgium) to produce a television show that will be broadcast in the fall of 2024 in at least six European countries.
