Description
Description | As part of this program, UNICEF Iraq's country program (so-called Country Program 2016 - 2019) will be financed with up to EUR 20.0 million. The measures in this second phase (education, child protection, WASH) follow on from the Education, Child Protection and Winter Resilience project (Phase 1; BMZ No. 2016.1880.0). UNICEF plans to use the German contribution in the area of education to repair, build and equip schools, set up temporary schools, train teachers in live skills and citizenship education, offer leisure activities suitable for children and young people to promote skills in the area of social cohesion and peaceful coexistence, and provide psychosocial care for children and young people. In the WASH area, the central drinking water network in Mosul, the water treatment plant in Hawija (Kirkuk), water treatment plants and the drinking water network in the Heet district (Anbar) as well as a main aquifer in the western outskirts of Baghdad / Abu Ghraib are to be repaired and additives required for water treatment are to be procured. The planned implementation period when the project was set up was 36 months until October 2020. Due to delays related to the spread of the corona virus, the project term was extended cost-neutrally until June 2021. The target group of the project includes up to around 265,000 children and young people in the provinces of Anbar, Dohuk, Kirkuk and Nineweh in the area of education and up to 1.9 million people in the WASH area (including around 1.0 million children and young people) in the provinces of Anbar, Kirkuk and Nineweh and Baghdad. |
