This program continues the support of UNICEF's commitment in Iraq in the area of child protection that began as part of the project Strengthening the resilience of refugees and host communities in the context of the Syria and Iraq crises (BMZ No. 201567932). To this end, the German side is providing UNICEF with a financial contribution of up to EUR 21 million. Access to and the quality of school education are to be expanded with additional funds in other communities in the provinces of Duhok, Erbil and Sulaymaniya. This program has an implementation period of 5 years (beginning December 2015). Due to delays related to the spread of the corona virus, the project duration of the program was extended by 8 months to August 31, 2021 at no cost. The individual measures include the construction and renovation of school buildings, the procurement of teaching and learning materials, the provision of cash transfers for particularly affected children, training and further education measures for teachers, and accompanying quality assurance and monitoring measures.
