Description

Description

As part of this program, UNICEF Iraq's country program (so-called Country Program) will be financed with up to EUR 20.0 million. The measures in this fourth phase (education, child protection, WASH) follow on from the previous phases and complement them. UNICEF plans to use 20% of the German contribution in the area of education. The individual measures include the rehabilitation of schools and the construction of container schools, the distribution of school and learning materials, the training and further education of teachers, and the introduction of decentralized school-based management structures. 390,000 children and young people are expected to benefit from this by 2021. Under the child protection component, which accounts for 50% of the current program's focus, reform-oriented measures are being implemented to establish a child and youth-friendly justice system and to strengthen children's rights, as well as measures for psychosocial and psychological support and care, as well as support services for juvenile offenders and measures to regain personal documents for access to school education and basic services. At least 50,000 children/young people are to benefit from these measures. Under the WASH component (30%), the rehabilitation of drinking water networks/pipelines, water treatment plants/sewage treatment plants and sanitation facilities at schools and health centers are financed. In total, at least 600,000 people in northern and central Iraq are to benefit from these WASH measures by 2021. The planned implementation period runs from September 2019 to September 2021.
