The German contribution to the financing of UNICEF in Iraq is to be increased by EUR 26 million in 2020 as part of a further phase. As with the previous projects, funding will be provided within the framework of the UNICEF country program for Iraq, which was coordinated and agreed with the Iraqi government. The aim of Phase 5 remains to improve access to and the quality of public education in primary and secondary schools, to create care and counseling services in the psychological and psychosocial field, and to improve the quality of public water supply and sanitation as well as sanitary facilities in schools and health facilities (WASH). At the policy level, social reforms and the inclusion of children and young people are to be promoted. In addition, measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 are to be promoted.
