Description | The project follows on from previous phases with additional funding of EUR 25 million, thereby supporting the implementation of the UNICEF country program in Iraq. The project sponsor is UNICEF. The aim of the project is to improve access to and the quality of psychological care for children and young people, public education for children and young people, public water supply and sanitation, and social reforms and inclusion. It also helps to contain the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the social and health consequences of the pandemic. Digital approaches such as blended learning, social media and IT-based management information systems are also used. The project includes the following measures, among others - Expansion and improvement of sewage and water supply infrastructure - Provision and equipment of containers and classrooms for school lessons, as well as teaching and learning materials - Establishment of stationary and mobile facilities for psychological counseling and legal assistance for parents and children - Training of social workers to provide high-quality services for people with disabilities - Training of primary health care workers in relation to COVID-19 vaccinations; Provision of technical equipment for vaccination centers For the areas of education, child protection, social reforms and COVID-19 measures, the target group of the project includes Iraqi children and young people as well as Syrian refugee children from preschool to secondary school age. The target group of the WASH component is the population living permanently or temporarily at the measure locations (including internally displaced persons). The measures are mainly implemented in the governorates of Anbar, Baghdad, Ninewa, Kirkuk and in the autonomous region of Kurdistan. Some interventions are implemented at national level. |
