Description
Description | The multiple and worsening crises in Lebanon are having a negative impact on the supply and demand for education. The Lebanese government is increasingly unable to provide basic social services such as education for the people in the country. At the same time, the (opportunity) costs of education are rising significantly due to the economic crisis, which is leading to negative coping strategies for many families (e.g. de-registration or increased absence from school) and reducing the demand for education. Vulnerable population groups of both Lebanese and non-Lebanese origin are particularly affected by these developments. The aim of the project is therefore to improve the personal and economic development opportunities for children in Lebanon. This is to be achieved through improvements in access to and quality of public education. The funds provided are to be used to finance school fees for Lebanese and non-Lebanese children for formal education in the 2024/2025 school year. To this end, in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Lebanese Ministry of Education (MEHE), the school fees of vulnerable children (Lebanese and non-Lebanese) are to be partially financed through the transitional aid measure. The measure is being implemented within the framework of the so-called TREF (Transition and Resilience Education Fund). |
