Description
Description | The aim of the project is to improve the health and living conditions of Syrian refugees and the Lebanese population in host communities through improved drinking water supplies and sanitation. In addition, the regional and national administrative capacities in the sector are to be strengthened. As part of the program, 12 water supply and four sanitation facilities are to be rehabilitated or expanded. An FC contribution of EUR 15 million is being made available for this purpose. A total of 200,000 people are to benefit from improved drinking water quality and availability, and 50,000 people are to benefit from improved sanitation conditions in communities that are particularly suffering from inadequate water and sanitation. The target group includes the Lebanese population in the target communities, Syrian refugees and Palestinian refugees from Syria. UNICEF is tasked with implementation and will be responsible for coordinating the WASH measures in Lebanon as part of the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (LCRP) and Regional Refugee & Resilience Plan (3RP). As part of the project, UNICEF is working closely with the regional Water Establishments (WEs) and the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW). The project will run for 38 months, starting in November 2016. |
