Description

Description

Due to the ongoing armed conflict in Yemen, the number of internally displaced people has now grown to more than 4 million people. The fragile and overburdened public structures can only inadequately guarantee the basic services of the internally displaced and their host communities. Therefore, the overarching goal of the measure is to improve the living conditions of internally displaced people and the local population. The project is divided into three components (1) WASH, with the aim of providing clean drinking water, an improved sewage system and good hygiene conditions for children and families in regions with a high risk of cholera, (2) education, with the aim of improving access to quality education for children affected by the conflict and (3) child protection, with the aim of sustainably increasing the resilience of children and young people. The measures of the project include the rehabilitation of drinking water supply and sewage systems in predominantly urban areas; the rehabilitation of school buildings, the equipping of schools with inventory and teaching materials, and the provision of care and psychosocial support for children affected by war trauma. The target group includes internally displaced persons and the local population in host communities. The project executing agency is the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The project is financed by KfW through a grant from the BMZ Special Initiative Refugees and Host Countries (SI GA).
