This project consists of an equity investment in Unigold, Inc. (“Unigold” or the “Company”), a TSX Venture Exchange listed junior mining company carrying out exploration activities at Neita, its flagship project, located in northwestern Dominican Republic. IFC is considering an equity investment of up to US$11.4 million in Unigold to be used to support its 2012-2013 exploration program at Neita. This Concession is located along the Central Cordillera in northwestern Dominican Republic within the Provinces of Dajabón and Elias Piña. The Concession is located approximately 200 linear kilometers from the capital, Santo Domingo.Unigold is a TSX Venture Exchange listed junior company based in Canada and focused on gold exploration in the Dominican Republic. The Company’s wholly owned Neita Concession covers an area of 252 km2 in the northwestern part of the county and bordering on its western limit with Haiti. To date, more than 60,000 meters of drilling have been carried out at Neita with four targets being identified within this concession: Los Candelones, MGN, Noisy and Corozo. The most advanced of these targets is Los Candelones and its extension to the east called Lomita Piña. Neita is currently the only concession wholly owned by Unigold in the Dominican Republic. The Company also holds a first right option to the nearby Sabaneta concession. However, to date, this option has not been exercised by the Company.Current exploration work at Neita includes the use of 3 drilling rigs with plans to increase to 4 in the near future. Unigold owns the drilling rigs and directly employs the drilling workers with an external company, Northstar, providing drilling management and supervision services. Current workforce for the Project includes approximately 115 people of which 90 are local and mostly hired from the local communities (skilled and unskilled). The Company’s exploration camp has been implemented a few kilometers outside of the town of Restauración and includes accommodation to house 31 people, office facilities, a core shed, maintenance shop, kitchen facilities and a parking area. Unigold has expressed its objective to follow good international industry practice (GIIP) in environmental, safety, health and community issues. In this sense, IFC will assist Unigold in preparing a comprehensive Health, Safety, Environment & Community (HSEC) Policy which will contain elements of a continuous improvement process and management plans and procedures to address risks and impacts for the exploration stage with commitments to any future mine development.
