Description

Description

As part of a broader transit agreement with Metrolinx, the City is to construct a pedestrian connection between Union Station (the busiest transportation hub in the city with GO commuter rail and subway connections) with the western portion of the downtown core. This study is exploring optional routes with cost comparisons to include retail to support commuters. The initial pedestrian planning for the station modeled the GO Transit and VIA Rail ridership at the am and pm peak times projected to 2031. It was determined that due to the increased ridership projections both the above and below ground routes to and from the station would have to be enhanced to ensure pedestrian safety and efficient movement. The analysis showed that the west portion of the financial core was underserved by the underground pedestrian PATH and that a connection west ward was needed.
