Description | A custom-built hatchery developed by University of the Sunshine Coast scientists has achieved Australia’s first commercial-scale production of a native giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii. The hatchery and nursery, established at UniSC’s Sunshine Coast campus, has overcome a major bottleneck in aquaculture for this species, enabling faster and bigger growth. The project is a sustainable aquaculture pilot led by Indigenous communities in Far North Queensland in partnership with CSIRO, funded by the Queensland Government. |
