Unity Mall at Chimbel

Unity Mall is a commercial project located at Chimbel, Goa. The project has received environmental clearance from the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) with conditions such as using treated water from the Tonca sewage treatment plant for construction and preparing a comprehensive mobility plan to prevent traffic congestion. The project area comprises forested and agricultural land around the Chimbel lake, which is environmentally sensitive. The local residents and the Chimbel panchayat have opposed the project due to concerns about environmental impact, threat to the lake and aquifers, and lack of transparency and consultation.
