University of Alabama Birmingham Residence and Dining Hall

The University of Alabama Birmingham is seeking bids from pre-qualified general contractors to build a residence and dining hall. It will be a U-shaped, five-to-seven-level terraced building with approximately 241,000 sq ft. The building will consist of a brick veneer, architectural precast detailing, and glass curtainwall. It will have a double-height dining space with a full commercial kitchen and three dining concepts. The dining space will be in the courtyard and will sit above the storm shelter, which will be built into the site. The site will include removing a significant portion of earth to maintain most of the courtyard at level 1. The site will include exterior plazas, a terracing rain garden, a bio-swale, an outdoor living room and a recreation area.
