University of Alaska Fairbanks Structural Testing Facility

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art structural testing facility, home to the only load frame of its size in the state and the entire Northwest United States. The facility enables full-scale testing of structural elements, including a major project testing a bridge girder for the Alaska Department of Transportation to optimize designs for safety and cost savings. The facility also supports research on new materials suitable for Arctic conditions and plans to add a cold room for testing at very low temperatures.
