Description

Description

The VIEWWS project is part of a Global Project located on the Mediterranean core network corridor, aiming at achieving Class V CEMT (Conference of the European Ministers of Transport) standards along the entire Inland Waterway (IWW) system connecting the core inland port of Mantova to the Adriatic Sea through the core port of Venice and the comprehensive ports of Rovigo, Chioggia and Porto Levante. It aims at unlocking the navigation conditions of the Veneto’s IWW system through the improvement of existing bridging infrastructures along two of its most important stretches, the Fissero-Tartaro-Canalbianco-Po di Levante and the Po Brondolo. Specifically, it comprises works and studies to upgrade the IWW at Class V CEMT standards, thus improving the Northern Italy IWW, in line with priorities set in the Mediterranean Corridor Work Plan. The project’s foreseen interventions include: - works to increase the under-bridge clearance of two road bridges (WP6 - Trecenta and WP5 - Calà del Moro) and of one railway bridge (Rosolina – WP2) - works to increase the capacity and ensuring good navigation conditions of a section of the waterway at another road bridge (Rantin – WP3) - works to upgrade the hydraulic and electro-mechanical components in one of the locks in order to ensure its operability (Baricetta – WP4), - studies and designs for the access infrastructure to a new railway bridge, increasing the under-bridge clearance (Arquà Polesine – WP7). Consequently, the combined interventions look to enhance the performance and competitiveness of the entire IWW system, by achieving stable and improved navigation conditions throughout the IWW and enabling the passage of modern barges. The project is a continuation of the TEN-T co-funded Action 2009-IT-91405-S.
