Description

Description

The project Landing Zones (Unruly Ecologies. Art, Attention, Neurodiversity) is aimed at fostering spaces and cultures at the intersection of neurodiverse activism and ecology, through the creation of a transnational digital library as well as multimedia installations. For several decades now, neurodiverse activism and theory have been unfolding in the social, cultural and academic worlds, seeking to remind us of the triple fact that: 1° there are multitudes of ways of perceiving, interacting and being in the world; 2° a whole range of pressures are exerted to make us believe that one is better than others; 3° there is a need to create concrete conditions (spaces, modes of attention, resources, methodologies) to open the spaces to welcome neurodiversity. Following this need, the project is centered around the building of Temporary Landing Zones (TLZs): places for rest, nap, slow down. TLZs are architectural inserts, in a school, in an art gallery, in the heart of a city: they are spaces where you can stay, come and go, sleep or do-nothing for a while. Together with TLZs, the project will work on the creation and translation of essential resources at the intersection of environmental & neurodiverse studies. Giving theoretical context to the necessity to reclaim “rest as resistance,” this library will be composed of both physical and digital texts (in zines and audiobooks), translated into plainer (easy-to-read or basic) English/ French/ Croatian/ Danish. Landing Zones’ activities will consist of two sets of 1-week workshops at each partner site. They will result in 1/ the installation of Temporary Landing Zones in each location; 2/ the creation, online and onsite, of a transnational library. Three partners constitute this consortium: Ecole supérieure d’art d’Avignon, Higher Education French art school, Umjetnički Paviljon/Art Pavilion in Zagreb, a major Croatian Kunsthalle in Zagreb ; Aarhus University in Denmark.
