Description
Description | The civil war in Syria, which has been going on since 2011, has caused massive refugee movements to neighboring countries. The high number of refugees is increasing the already high pressure on resources and making access to basic services more difficult, especially for the poor. The Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan, which were already heavily overburdened, are also affected. The aim of the SI measure is to strengthen the resilience of Palestinian refugees and to maintain their access to basic services in the areas of (environmental) health and education. This will contribute to stabilizing the countries neighboring the Syrian crisis and reduce the impact on the refugees. The aim is to finance teachers and (environmental) health personnel from UNRWA in Lebanon, as well as teachers from UNRWA in Jordan. This will provide Palestinian refugees from Syria and Palestinian refugees in host countries with access to education in UNRWA-run schools and access to basic medical care in UNRWA health centers. It will also support the provision of water supplies and waste management in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. The measure thus aims to increase stability in UNRWA refugee camps by supporting UNRWA in meeting its financing needs for basic services in the field of (environmental) health and education. The SI measure is being implemented by UNRWA in Lebanon and Jordan. |
