Update and Recalculation of national oil spill contingency plans in the Baltic Sea

The Baltic Sea is one of the most visited sea areas in the world. According to the number of accidents, the Baltic Sea is also the safest sea area. This is the result of national and international efforts to reduce maritime threats. Despite all efforts, accidents can happen. This results in significant hazards to the marine environment. To minimize these dangers, all Baltic Sea state states have precautionary measures in place to combat pesticide accidents at sea. These plans can only be used successfully in case of emergency, if they are regularly trained and updated. The updating of national precautionary plans binds considerable staff capacities and is difficult to integrate into the day - to - day business of the competent authorities. The goal of the planned main project UROSCO is to support the relevant authorities in updating the precautionary plans. In addition, in the current Seed Money project, all authorities in the Baltic States are contacted and the need for updating the precautionary plans is determined. Furthermore, a work plan for the main project is developed and the legal and organizational boundary conditions for the integration of the authorities in the project are created.
