Upgrade 10th Street pumping station to prevent contamination of adjacent river

The 10th Street Pumping Station is the second largest sewage pumping station in Hearst’s sewage collection system and handles approximately 25% of the 2160 households and businesses served by municipal sanitary services, including the Hospital, Nursing Home, arena and schools. The existing installation, located next to three schools and a pedestrian trail, is not protected against the frequent power failures, therefore causing the inevitable spilling of raw sewage into the Mattawishkwia river. The project comprises of the purchase and installation of an alternate power source (permanent back-up generator including footing and acoustic enclosure), the installation of the natural gas supply which will require lengthy excavation due to the location of the gas main, the related electrical appurtenances to allow the automatic transfer of electrical power to the pumping station, and the installation of decorative security fencing to prevent public access to the proposed back-up generator.
