Upgrade of the main electrical system at the First Street Waterplant
Sector: Water Supply and Storage • Location: Ontario, Canada
Source: Infrastructure Canada
Replace the obsolete 240 Volt electrical system with 600 V system at the First Street Waterplant. The upgrades will result in improved energy efficiency and reduce plant failures thereby reducing incidents of loss of water and loss of fire protection. This is the first step in a long list of upgrades needed at the Waterplant. In order to upgrade anything in our waterplant we need to convert our vo

Description
Description | Replace the obsolete 240 Volt electrical system with 600 V system at the First Street Waterplant. The upgrades will result in improved energy efficiency and reduce plant failures thereby reducing incidents of loss of water and loss of fire protection. This is the first step in a long list of upgrades needed at the Waterplant. In order to upgrade anything in our waterplant we need to convert our voltage from 240v to 600v first. The 240v system has given us troubles with inconsistent power and the change was recommended by both Ontario Hydro and the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA). The power coming into the plant is 600v but then we use a temporary transformer to reduce the voltage to 240. Once the system is upgraded to 600vm then we will be able remove the step-down transformer used to bring the electrical feed from 600v to 240v. We will then change the 3 phase motors on our 2 high lift pumps and our backwash pump. |
