Description

Description

The project addresses works for upgrading the 1.3 km long conventional single track railway section Děčín Východ– Děčín-Prostřední Žleb (both railway stations excluded) situated on the double track railway line Kolín – Všetaty – Děčín between km 457.724 and km 459.030. The project is located on a pre-identified section Dresden - Praha/Kolín of the Orient/East-Med Core Network Corridor and it is also part of the Orient/East-Med and North Sea-Baltic rail freight corridors. It addresses a cross border link listed in Part III of the Annex of the CEF Regulation 2021/1153 (Dresden – Praha/Kolín). The project is part of the Global Project covering the modernisation of the Kolín – Všetaty – Děčín freight railway corridor. The railway section was last modernised in the 1980s. Any further deterioration of the conditions of the rail infrastructure, including the over 100-year old railway bridge over the Elbe river and the Děčínský tunnel, would undermine the reliability and safety of rail transport while significantly increasing the maintenance and operating costs. Due to the poor technical condition of the railway infrastructure, this section represents a bottleneck preventing smooth transport flows along the right-bank freight railway corridor towards the state border with Germany. The objectives of the project are to: • increase the maximum speed from the current 30 km/h to 50 km/h (the maximum speed is limited due to the location of the project in the urban area of Děčín and in the area under environmental protection), • reduce travel times, • improve safety of railway operation, • ensure compliance with the applicable technical specifications: axle load of 22.5 tons, D4 line load class and UIC GC spatial clearance, • enhance the capacity of the line, • improve the transport connection between Czechia and Germany. To deliver on the overall objectives, the project covers the replacement of the railway superstructure and substructure, the reconstruction of other engineering structures (a railway crossing and adjacent roads affected by the works), the upgrade of the railway bridge over the Elbe river and Děčínský and Loubský tunnels as well as the upgrade of the catenary and security and communication equipment.
