Upgrade to the Town of Greater Napanee Wastewater Pollution Control Plant

The Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) requires an increase in rated capacity in order to handle both the normal and wet weather flows. An upgrade will greatly reduce the risk of effluent bypasses into the Napanee River, which is regularly used by the community and for tourism purposes. The treatment will be upgraded to comply with more stringent effluent criteria proposed by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) and the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan (BQRAP). Once the WPCP is expanded and upgraded, it will have sufficient capacity to handle the growing wastewater demand in sustainable fashion. The increased plant capacity will also allow for more economic development within the community. The Town of Greater Napanee has recently turned away interested proposals for further industrial and commercial development due to treatment constraints.
