Upgrades to Dykeland System for Climate Change Adaptation Project

This project will upgrade 60 km of dykes and 5 aboiteaux to proactively mitigate flooding risk using a phased-approach. In general, adapting the dykeland system for climate change will involve reinforcing the overall stability of the dyke (e.g. increasing dyke profile, armouring, realignment, aboiteaux upgrade/replacement, saltmarsh creation). It will strengthen the resilience of dykes and overall system, reduce disaster risks to public safety, critical infrastructure, and significant disruptions in economic activity, as well as save on repair and maintenance costs. The project will protect 60 communities in Nova Scotia from the impacts of coastal flooding.
