Upgrades to Dykes and Aboiteaux for Coastal Flood Protection

The community flood protection and highway corridor solution requires upgrading of the existing Avon River Aboiteau (replacement in coordination with the twinning of Highway 101 in this area), 3 additional minor aboiteaux structures, and 4 kilometres of Dykeland system, including the causeway (which provides a protected corridor for the highway, rail, and power infrastructure). The new aboiteau and upgraded dykeland system will provide long-term climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation for the community and infrastructure which is currently vulnerable to flooding risk (sea-level-rise, storm surge events). This project is in consultation with the Department of Agriculture, who maintain and operate the dykes and aboiteaux throughout the province.
