Description
Description | The project addresses the upgrade of the Jesenice railway station, as part of the global project aiming to upgrade the main railway line Ljubljana-Jesenice- Slovenian-Austrian (SI/AT) border, which is part of the pre-identified cross-border link Villach-Ljubljana on the comprehensive TEN-T network and also part of the European Alpine-Western Balkan Rail Freight Corridor (RFC 10). The global project consists of the upgrade of the railway infrastructure on the existing line including railway stations and the upgrade of the Karavanke railway tunnel. The upgrade of the Jesenice railway station is the next key contribution in that scope, as Jesenice is the first station on the Slovenian side from the Slovenian-Austrian border. The line from Ljubljana to Jesenice was built as a single track in 1870 and electrified in 1964. Due to inadequate technical parameters and deteriorated condition of the infrastructure, the Jesenice railway station represents a bottleneck on the railway network. Interventions for upgrading the infrastructure to TEN-T comprehensive network requirements are therefore necessary. The overall objectives are the following - to increase the maximum line speed from the current 35-40 km/h to 100-110 km/h, - to ensure the required interoperability (and compliance with the technical specifications for interoperability/TSIs) and technical parameters (i.e. 22.5 t axle load, UIC GC spatial clearance, possibility of running trains with a length of 740 m, freight traffic capacity parameter at least F1, passenger capacity parameter at least P4), - to enhance access and safety of railway transport and for passengers The overall objectives will be mainly achieved through upgrade of railway lines, station platforms, access to the platforms, as well as adjustment of signalling and upgrade of telecommunications equipment, catenary and electrical equipment. |
