Description
Description | The UPaRRT project is the second step of the Global Project aimed at strengthening the intermodal performances of Parma rail-road terminal (RRT). In particular, the project aims at completing a new intermodal terminal and make it fully operational. The terminal gives open access to all potential operators on a non-discriminatory basis. A first step was carried out during 2020-2021 with the construction of three railway tracks compliant with European 750 m length standard. The project, representing the second step, encompasses the works for the construction of indicatively 115.000 sqm of intermodal areas serving the already existent railway tracks. The works concern the construction of both the northern (77.700 sqm) and the southern (37.300 sqm) terminal area that comprises: - foundations and asphalt paving of the entire area destinated to transhipment operations; - the construction of underground utilities; - the infrastructure for the regulation of forecourt waters; - the construction of the lighting system; - the deployment of a fire prevention system. The project is contributing to the modal shift from road to rail in a catchment area with a strong export potential. Thanks to the new intermodal terminal, Parma RRT will be able to handle in short run an average of 370,000 tonnes/year and in the long run around 500.000 tonnes/year. This will allow in the mid-long term the transfer from road to rail of about 180M ton*km per year. |
