Description
Description | A subsidized loan is to be used to support the sewage company of the port city of Yantai in the expansion and conversion of two sewage treatment plants, Taoziwan and Xinanhe. The loan is to be used to finance the delivery of the electromechanical equipment for the two sewage treatment plants. The project also includes the construction of a process water recovery plant at the Xinanhe sewage treatment plant, the rehabilitation and expansion of the seawater outlet of the Taoziwan sewage treatment plant and the rehabilitation of the process water distribution network of the Taoziwan sewage treatment plant. In addition to the KfW subsidized loan, the financing of the entire project is ensured by funds from the local project sponsor (Yantai Municipal Drainage Administration) and the local government. The port city of Yantai has around 1.8 million inhabitants (the target group of the project) and is located directly on the Bohai Bay on the Yellow Sea. A large part of the city's sewage currently flows into a national special marine conservation area. The two sewage treatment plants, which were put into operation in the 1990s (Taoziwan) and in 2003 (Xinanhe), do not currently meet the requirements for the highest Chinese wastewater treatment standard, so that the plants must be expanded and rebuilt in order to achieve this. The two sewage treatment plants to be financed will treat the wastewater of the city and two industrial and commercial areas. In addition, the Xinanhe plant will in future treat wastewater as process water, primarily for the irrigation of urban green spaces and as cooling water for power plants. The aim of the project is to reduce pollution and improve the water quality of the Bohai Bay on the Yellow Sea, as well as to conserve scarce water resources by reusing the treated wastewater as process water. |
