Description | Denmark’s European Energy A/S has received planning approval for its 1.1-GW Upper Calliope Solar Farm project in Queensland, Australia, taking the fully contracted development, and one of its largest to date, to the next phase. The project, located near Gladstone, has a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Rio Tinto Ltd, which will off-take all electricity generated by the plant. The approval enables the project to move into final design, grid connection processes, and construction preparation. Remaining milestones include finalising grid access, procurement, and reaching a final investment decision. Once operational, the solar farm will supply Rio Tinto’s operations in Queensland, including aluminium smelting and alumina refining in the Gladstone region. |
