Description
Description | The project involves seven hydro-electric projects (HEPs) in the upper reaches of the Alaknanda-Bhagirathi river basin in Uttarakhand, India. Four of these projects have been commissioned and three are in advanced stages of construction. The government has decided not to allow any new HEPs in this ecologically and culturally significant region due to its geological fragility, recurrent natural disasters, and the need to maintain a minimum flow of 1,000 cusecs in the river as per a century-old agreement. |
