Description

Description

The project involves preparing a site at Camp Williams, Utah, to build a manufacturing facility that will produce equipment used for uranium enrichment, which is essential for nuclear power production. The preparation includes extending utilities, clearing, and excavating part of 400 acres at Camp Williams. The facility is planned to be located west of the Utah National Guard site and near the National Security Agency’s Utah Data Center. The project is supported by a $16.5 million loan from the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA) to itself, with a 2.25% interest rate over 15 years. MIDA leases the land from the Utah Armory Board and subleases it to Utah Energy, a subsidiary of the California-based nuclear startup General Matter. The plan is to manufacture hardware similar to that used in uranium enrichment facilities like the one in Eunice, New Mexico. The project is expected to benefit Utah's economy and employment and provide residual income to the Utah National Guard. There is also funding included for site preparation of a second potential manufacturing facility catering to military uses, pending lease agreements.
