Description
Description | The FC module represents the second phase of the Urban Climate Adaptation in Central America - Honduras Component project. The project is coherent with the Urban Climate Adaptation in Central America - El Salvador Component project. The aim of the project is to reduce the risk of flooding and landslides for the poor population of the urban area of the capital city of Honduras (Distrito Central) and thus the associated losses and damage. The project also contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030 (poverty reduction - SDG 1, sustainability of cities and settlements - SDG 11, combating climate change and its impacts - SDG 13). The program's measures include gray and green infrastructure for climate adaptation and disaster prevention, as well as improving the early warning system and climate risk management by the institutions and affected population groups involved. The direct target group of the FC module in both phases is the poor population of the districts of the Distrito Central urban area most affected by the consequences of extreme weather events and is estimated at a total of around 150,000 people. The grant recipient is the Republic of Honduras. The program sponsor is the city administration of the Distrito Central urban area (Alcaldía Municipal del Distrito Central - AMDC) in coordination with the Civil Protection (Comisión Permanente de Contingencia - COPECO) for the topic of disaster risk management and the Ministry of the Environment (Secretaría de Energía, Recursos Naturales, Ambiente y Minas - MiAmbiente) for the topic of climate change. The total cost of the second phase amounts to EUR 18.8 million, of which the city administration will make a contribution of around 20%. The FC funds amount to EUR 15.0 million, which will be provided through a grant. |
