UrbaN InTEgration Strategies through co-design

Coordinated by Eurocities with support from the community-interest consultancy MigrationWork, the migrant organisations NWC and UNITEE and the cities of Athens (EL), Bologna (IT), Dusseldorf (DE), Grenoble Alpes Metropole (FR), Prague (CZ), Oulu (FI), Zagreb (HR), Zaragoza (ES), UNITES will train local authorities to co-design integration strategies with other stakeholders and migrants and thereby lead to improved integration outcomes. In a first stage, UNITES will develop training on co-designing integration strategies which incorporates research on best practice across Europe. A pilot version of the training will be conducted with staff from the 8 cities participating in the project. The training will then be developed into an open access online course (MOOC) which will be piloted with local stakeholders in the 8 cities and integration practitioners outside the project. In a second stage, 8 city partners will set up a new mechanism for stakeholder consultation and develop their local integration strategy through co-design with stakeholders and migrants. In planning and implementing their actions, they will receive guidance from colleagues from other cities and migrant organisations in peer-workshops and peer-visits to each city. The experiences of the 8 city partners will be incorporated in an updated version of the online course which will be presented at the 11th edition of the Integrating Cities conference (IC XI), focusing on co-designing integration strategies. IC XI will also serve to raise awareness among politicians on the importance of a whole-of-society approach to integration. At the end of the project, following a call, 2 cities outside the project will be selected to benefit from a support-package in co-designing integration strategies from 2 teams of 2 city staff members trained as integration champions in the project. Eurocities will ensure that numerous integration practitioners will benefit of UNITES' outputs after its end.
