The densification of cities is important for the development of our region. High noise levels can be an obstacle to expansion. The Urban tranqulity project aims to get key stakeholders to look at the noise issue in new ways. Cities are densified so that more people can live in and develop them, and for us to feel good in the cities there are guidelines for what noise levels it can be built. This prevents some land from being exploited. Urban Tranquility wants to help stakeholders develop and look at the issue in new ways, thereby enabling more densification. — There is a need to dense cities but also a need to bring in more transport such as buses. At the same time, there is a need to build more easily. So there are several phenomena that all end up in the problems surrounding acoustics and vibrations, but also in what propensity companies have to develop technology to overcome these problems. It’s the putty of what we want to work with, says Göran Sandberg, project manager for Urban tranqulity. Focus on sustainability and sound levels: Urban Tranquility wants to contribute to new ideas on the issue, and will mainly be based on two aspects. The first aspect is the sound level linked to the health of those living in cities, the second aspect is being able to dense cities with sustainable construction. The two aspects involve many stakeholders and citizens. Dialogue with them is therefore a big part of the project. — When densifying cities are formed many groups with different opinions, we want to see how the citizens’ dialogue can be carried out in other ways. We will also work towards the various stakeholders required in the process, which are needed to generate new ideas," says Anne Landin, responsible for the project’s third activity focusing on construction production. Want to engage the industry in new opportunities: Another key issue is to get the construction industry to accept the new conditions that prevail. By working with workshops, case studies and presenting good examples, the project hopes to achieve greater understanding in the industry. We will try to demonstrate the possibilities that exist. Much is new in the construction industry, noise and densification means that you need to plan final productions as well as the entire construction process in new ways, which works must embrace. There we want to be able to show concrete examples in order to generate new ideas," says Anne Landin. Similarly, the project wants to broaden the approach of those who create regulations. Urban Tranquility believes that existing regulations should be adapted to new technological possibilities. One example is the increasingly common and quieter electric hybrids that can contribute to quieter roads. “There are too many regulations that focus not on the new opportunities, but on what has been,” explains Göran Sandberg. Collaboration creates dynamism: Since the problem exists in both Sweden and Denmark, Urban Tranquility sees it as a matter of course that the countries cooperate. It’s nice that we have a regional thought and that we don't think country by country. Noise is present throughout the region, says Anne Landin. Göran Sandberg added: — Industrial culture looks different around construction in the different countries. In Sweden we have large contracts, while in Denmark there are often smaller companies. It provides dynamism on the issue that will benefit the project.
