Description

Description

The FC project includes measures for drinking water and basic sanitation as well as hygiene awareness in the capital Juba and in three other program cities (Torit, Yambio and Yei) in South Sudan. It is a follow-up phase of the FC project Urban Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal in South Sudan (BMZ No. 2011 65 893). Due to the deteriorating political situation in South Sudan and the associated suspension of the FC project since 2016, the planned measures are now being implemented as part of an adapted project concept via the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) as the project sponsor. The aim of the adapted measure is to provide the population in the program cities with hygienically impeccable and conflict-sensitive drinking water and basic sanitation services. The population should thereby use affordable drinking water and basic sanitation and improve their hygiene behavior (development policy goal). The project consists of three packages of measures: 1.) measures to improve the drinking water supply, 2.) measures to expand basic sanitation and 3.) measures to raise awareness of hygiene. The project focuses on the program cities of Torit, Yambio and Yei and the outskirts of Juba (sanitation only). In total, around 200,000 people in the four program cities will benefit from the planned measures (target group). The total cost of the project is EUR 10 million and is financed by an FC grant.
