The Mozambique Urban Water Security Project aims to increase access to improved water supply services and strengthen service delivery capacity in selected cities by focusing on sector reforms to increase private sector participation; investing in infrastructure to expand water treatment, transport, storage, and distribution capacity in the Maputo metropolitan region and other southern cities; and supporting improved performance of institutions involved in water supply. The project design includes Performance-based conditions to support the performance improvement of regional water utilities, with the aim of modernizing urban water services, improving efficiency, increasing revenues, building resilient infrastructure, and developing skilled water professionals. Ultimately, the project aims to improve public health, economic development, and poverty reduction with a focus on Greater Maputo and the Southern Region, addressing water insecurity and improving performance in key regions as part of the broader country investment to close the gap towards universal access to water and sanitation in Mozambique.
