Description

Description

Core problem The core problem is the inadequate drinking water supply infrastructure in the city of Kayes, which is already unable to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population, and the complete lack of wastewater treatment. Module objective The objective is to sustainably improve drinking water supply and wastewater disposal for the population of the city of Kayes and neighboring communities. Key outputs Investment measures in the areas of drinking water supply and wastewater disposal (including the construction of water production and storage capacities and the construction of faecal sludge treatment plants and septic tanks) as well as accompanying advisory services are planned. The capacities for water extraction, treatment and distribution (component 1) are to be expanded. In the area of wastewater disposal, the establishment of a structured urban wastewater disposal system including collection, transport and treatment (component 2) will help to provide adequate sanitation for the city. Target group The population of the city of Kayes and neighboring communities will benefit directly (estimated at around 225,000 people in 2020). Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - No poverty - Clean water and sanitation - Decent work and economic growth - Sustainable cities and communities
