Description

Description

The capital of the autonomous province of Xinjiang, Urumqi, is planning to build a subway network due to its population growth (since 2000 by around 1 million to 3.1 million inhabitants) and the associated increase in urban traffic. This will consist of a total of seven lines with a travel distance of around 210 km. As part of the current project, Line 1 will be built, which will connect the airport in the north with the southern district of Santunbei. The line will connect 21 stations over a total distance of 27 km. The city expects an initial passenger volume of 352,000 per day, which is set to increase to almost 1 million travelers by 2040. The project sponsor is Urumqi Urban Rail Transit Group Ltd., a single-purpose company of the city of Urumqi, founded in 2011 and still under construction. The total cost of the project is around EUR 3 billion. Of this, EUR 100 million will be financed through an FC loan, which corresponds to a share of around 3% of the total investment costs. The financing is ODA-eligible.
