Description | The purpose of the proposed improvements is to improve safety and mobility by upgrading the existing US Highway (US) 59 to interstate standards by constructing frontage roads and reconstructing US 59 mainlanes from approximately 0.2 miles north of Farm-to-Market (FM) 223 (Church Street) to north of the Trinity River in San Jacinto and Polk counties, Texas. Proposed improvements would also include construction of new Trinity River bridges with turnarounds (U-turn) and an overpass at FM 1127. The proposed project runs approximately six miles and extends from Shepherd, Texas in San Jacinto County to north of the Trinity River in Polk County. The proposed project is anticipated to enhance safety, improve mobility, provide a more efficient hurricane evacuation route and provide system connectivity to I-69. |
