U.S. Deep-Sea Mining Industry Development

planned

Following President Donald Trump's executive order in April 2025, the U.S. government and private companies have accelerated efforts to establish a commercial deep-sea mining industry. This includes fast-tracking permits for seabed mineral exploration and mining in areas ranging from American Samoa to Alaska. Several companies, including The Metals Company, Odyssey Marine Exploration, and Impossible Metals, are actively pursuing exploration licenses and preparing for commercial mining operations. The project involves extracting polymetallic nodules and other mineral resources from the seafloor, with plans for lease sales and regulatory restructuring under the Marine Minerals Administration.
