U.S. Highway 72 East Safety Improvements

The Alabama Department of Transportation is proposing safety improvements along a roughly six-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 72 East in Madison County, Alabama. The project targets one of the region's busiest corridors, focusing on modifying intersections, median crossovers, and access points to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes. Proposed changes include construction of turn lanes, closure of certain left-out movements, conversion of intersections to right-in, right-out access, realignment, and installation of multi-use path crossings. The project also proposes adding U-turn lanes and widened paved areas ('loons') to maintain access and allow large vehicles to safely complete U-turns.
