The project has faced multiple setbacks including software failures and accidents during tests off the California coast. The Pentagon's Defense Innovation Unit has paused a $20 million contract with L3Harris, a software provider for the project. The Navy has committed at least $160 million to BlackSea, and the Pentagon launched a $1 billion Replicator programme in 2023 to accelerate drone acquisition. The project is under review due to setbacks and leadership changes. |
