Description | US ports are facing nearly $7 billion in tariff costs due to proposed US tariffs on Chinese-made container cranes. The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) estimates that 44 of the 55 cranes currently on order by US ports are made in China, with 151 more needed over the next 10 years, mostly from China. The tariffs, up to 100%, would significantly increase costs for ports, such as the Port of Houston, which is scheduled to receive eight cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries in spring 2026. The tariffs could delay infrastructure investments and the AAPA is calling for a delay in tariff implementation to allow domestic crane manufacturing to develop. |
