Description | The USS Texas, a New York-class battleship, is undergoing a $75 million restoration in Galveston, Texas. The project includes restoring watertight integrity, reinstalling historically accurate antennas and lights, and fully coating the inside and outside of the foretop that controls the 14-inch and 5-inch gun batteries. Over 200,000 person-hours have been spent, with workers painting the hull and replacing over 700 tons of steel to preserve the ship for another 100 years. |
