Description

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) plans a $350 million expansion project to build a new College of Medicine and Interdisciplinary Building. The project aims to grow the medical school's class sizes, expand offerings in the College of Health Professions and College of Graduate Health Sciences, and reshape part of the Memphis Medical District campus. The building is expected to be 275,000 to 300,000 square feet and will allow the M.D. program to expand from 175 to 225 students per year. Construction is expected to begin in August 2026, pending state budget approval, with completion anticipated in 2029. The project is currently in the design phase, with RFPs issued for a construction manager and general contractor, and finalists selected for interviews. Designers include St. Louis-based HOK and Memphis-based brg3s Architects. The site is located between the UTHSC College of Pharmacy and the former Holiday Inn hotel building.
