The principal objective of the Uttar Pradesh Forestry Project is to assist with the implementation of the Government of Uttar Pradesh (GOUP) strategy for development of the forestry sector. More specifically the development objectives are to: i) improve public sector management; ii) increase both forest cover and productivity; and iii) conserve biodiversity. The four project components are: 1) Institutional development component. 2) The forest development component will finance interventions in forest resource development, including: a) natural forest management; b) plantation development; and c) farm, community, and urban forestry. 3) The research and technology component will develop a more effective research organization working to prioritize research programs. 4) Biodiversity conservation component.
