The project began in 2012 with an estimated cost of Tk 220 billion, which has risen to Tk 335 billion. The project is plagued by frequent service disruptions, maintenance problems, and safety concerns including a fatal bearing pad accident. Contractors and consultants have been requested to fix the flaws within an extended timeframe and continue repairs for two more years free of charge. |
