Description | The project involves the construction and operation of the 565MW Vale Azul II combined-cycle plant, located in Macaé municipality, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The project was awarded a 25-year PPA in Brazil's A-6 auction held in December 2017 by power regulator Aneel. The capacity which is not contracted will be negotiated on a merchant basis or through bilateral PPAs. Marlim Azul Energia SA, owned by Shell (29.9%), Pátria Investimentos (50.1%) and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (20%), will develop the plant. Total cost is BRL 2.5 billion (615 million). BNDES is the sole lender of the long-term debt portion in the amount of BRL 2 billion ($492 million). Financial close was reached on 19 December 2019.
